Every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported at school. 🏫

That’s why we’re excited to share the FREE #Safe2BeMe Toolkit - a new collection of practical, student-led resources designed to help schools create safer and more inclusive environments for autistic and neurodivergent students.

How was the toolkit developed?

This toolkit was co-designed through a partnership between the AQ Community Inclusion Team, AQ School Team, and AQ School students, ensuring that autistic voices and lived experience were central from the very beginning.

We asked autistic students from Prep to Year 12 a simple but important question:
“What helps you feel safe at school?” 💭

Students shared their experiences in a range of ways - through stories, artwork, surveys, conversations, drawings, and videos 🫶 Their insights directly shaped the final toolkit.

A student advisory group of autistic secondary students then worked alongside the project team to co-design and refine the resources, ensuring the final product genuinely reflects what matters most to students.

What were the outcomes?

The result is the #Safe2BeMe Toolkit - a suite of videos, tools, strategies, and practical resources to support educators and school communities to create environments where autistic students feel safe, understood, and able to thrive.

We are incredibly proud of the students who contributed, particularly those involved in the video and resource development.

Because everyone deserves to feel #Safe2BeMe 🥰
